McNamee: “Does that clear it up? Probably not. Certainly not. But we moderns, surrounded by the high noise and low signal of media meant to capture and captivate the lowest common denominator, are all members of McLuhan’s tribe. In our time, form determines content. In our time, the invisibility and everywhere-at-onceness of those media make them more powerful than earlier forms of communication, which is why their owners are always seeking ways to make the media even more transparent, omnipresent, and ‘realistic.’ Thus it is that the awful countenance of Donald ‘Ozymandias’ Trump is so much among us. Oblique and perhaps half-correct though it may be, Understanding Media remains an owner’s manual of a kind, and it is well worth revisiting and arguing with 45 years later.”

Second Effects researched Technorati and lists the biggest blogs covering Second Life and Metaverses; http://tr.im/hEDq
SE: “Last week I published a first attempt at a comprehensive list of Second Life-related blogs. Well, it wasn’t as accurate as it could have been, as several readers suggested blogs that were not included, and some blogs were, um, kinda dead. So I promised to make a better list and republish.”
Gwyn: “Why is this list interesting or even useful? Second Life, unlike the real world, lacks any mass media facility – which means that it’s way harder to reach a wide audience with a targeted product or marketing campaign. Information is scattered and, in spite of the number of Second Life residents being about the same as the Netherlands’, it’s almost impossible to reach them all – or even have a clue about who is still active or not. … However, if you’re a marketeer looking to buy some ad space, note that while some of those blogs are purely commercial (namely the top two), many bloggers are ostensibly anti-advertising or anti-monetising of their endeavours. Others at least offer some ad space, either through Google Adsense, or even through their own system.”

RWW: “Salesforce.com presents this as a tool for customer service, but it is equally applicable to sales. Before contacting someone on an important call, a quick check on what is being said about them, about you or your firm, and/or about the subject of your call is simply good preparation.”
TC: “The Service Cloud seems like a useful tool to capture and then sort conversations about a particular enterprise. But what’s fascinating is how businesses want to tap into the dialogue of what’s happening on social networks, like Facebook and Twitter. Social networks are becoming much more than an online gathering of friends; Facebook and Twitter are becoming destinations for ideation, e-commerce and marketing.”
