Stump leaves Digg and founds Crahs Corp, an Alternate Reality Mobile Gaming startup; http://tr.im/lvxV
Stump: “This week I gave notice to Digg that I’m going to be leaving the company to pursue other opportunities.”
TC: “So what’s the new company? It’s Crash Corp., a ‘Alternate Reality Mobile Gaming’ startup. Their games will mix the real world with fictional story lines – expect the first title later this year on the iPhone. They’ll also build on other mobile platforms, Galligan says. … Stump has clearly been working on Crash Corp. for at least a few months. On March 14 he said in a now deleted blog post that the company would launch classic games against your friends on the iPhone using Facebook connect. It sounds like it has evolved significantly since then.”
Mashable: “Stump isn’t going it alone, however: he’s joining forces with SocialThing founder Matt Galligan, who at age 24 has already sold one company: in 2008 SocialThing was acquired by AOL and integrated into Bebo, AIM and other properties. Galligan announced today, via a video on his Facebook page, that he’ll be leaving AOL in two weeks to join the venture. He’ll take the CEO role at CrashCorp while Stump becomes its CTO.”
Wolfram|Alpha is live: Its search results are amazing, combining the power of Google and Wikipedia; http://tr.im/lvnc
Wolfram|Alpha: “just went live for the very first time, running all clusters. – This first run at testing Wolfram|Alpha in the real world is off to an auspicious start, although not surprisingly, we’re still working on some kinks, especially around logging. – While we’re still in the early stages of this long-term project, it is really gratifying to finally have the opportunity to invite you to participate in this project with us.”
Mashable: “It’s interesting, too, that Wolfram Alpha attempted to deflect the hype (and likely disappointment) early on by asserting that it was not a Google competitor, but then ramped up the hype once again by live-streaming the incredibly challenging launch process.”
TC: “Finally, it is not as though Web isn’t evolving as well. Wolfram needs to store all of the data it sifts through in its own databases because that is how it imposes structure on the data. The Web is messy and unstructured. Yet there is a general movement afoot to impose structure on the data found across the Web. Everyone from semantic search startups to Google itself is making the Web more computable by categorizing the information on it in a way that computers can understand and manipulate more easily. Of course, to the extent that happens, Wolfram Alpha can take advantage of it as well. – In search, whoever can come up with the best answer wins. As promising as it is, that isn’t Wolfram Alpha yet.“

Six Apart: “At Six Apart, we love making the web better and more connected, and we want to help all publishers succeed, regardless of what tools they use. We believe in the power of blogging, and that’s why we’ve got a whole bunch of powerful services available for WordPress users: TypePad AntiSpam, Six Apart Media, TypePad Connect, Blogs.com and more. One simple plugin helps you get started.”
NS: “The audience at Word Camp Mid-Atlantic drew a deep breath as Anil Dash, one of the co-founders of Six Apart a rival blogging platform delivered the keynote address. During the keynote he made a very sensational announcement. The screen lit up with a URL sixapart.com/wordpress which is like Microsoft having a place for Apple software on their website. – What Anil announced was that Six Apart is introducing plug-ins that word press and other blogging platform users can use TypePad AntiSpam, Six Apart Media, TypePad Connect, Blogs.com.”
TC: “Perhaps this integration between the Six Apart and WordPress will help settle the peace between the competitors. And perhaps this is a strategic move on Six Apart’s side to integrate with WordPress, a widely popular platform in the blogging world. One thing is for certain – it’s a blessing for many WordPress bloggers, who will now be able to use the plugin to access some of the useful features of SixApart without having to switch platforms. WordPress offers its own free and paid features for bloggers including a stats system and the commenting and spam technology Akismet (which TechCrunch uses).”
RWW: “This is big news and akin to Apple releasing software that runs on Windows. Six Apart should be commended for choosing a very grassroots-type WordPress event to make this announcement and we think this is a good way to introduce its services to bloggers on other platforms.”
